Getting Back Into the Loop

Getting Back Into the Loop
By Rob | May 24, 2010

It ain’t easy being out of the musical loop. Because I was out of the country and away from the interwebs for so long, all those new awesome albums that have come out in the past four months have flown completely under my radar. That Danger Mouse-James Mercer from the Shins collab? Just heard about it. Had no idea LCD Soundsystem had a new album out.  Apparently this new band, Sleigh Bells is pretty huge but I don’t know them. All I’ve been listening to for the past four months is bongo flava.

And while I’ll always have a special place in my heart for rump-shake inducing bongo flava, right now I’m trying catch up on all the music I’ve missed. Halfway through my epic online quest for new music, I came across this awesome mixtape put together by the music blog Stadiums and Shrines. Titled Random Rainbows Volume 2, the mixtape features 18 beautiful, spacey masterpieces from 18 bands I have never heard of before.

The highlight for me is Teen Daze’s remix of Twin Sister’s “All Around and Away We Go,” though other highlights include Sunvisor’s “Sky Dive” and “Aquarium” by Jamie Long. Actually, each song on Random Rainbows can stand on its own as top-notch. Props to Sutton from Stadiums and Shrines for putting together such a masterful mixtape.
